Financial pyramid scheme
Financial pyramids are criminalized investment schemes in which depositors receive income only through contributions from new participants. As soon as the cash inflow stops, the payments stop and most of the participants of the scheme are left without funds. The only one who is guaranteed to receive income is the organizer of the pyramid scheme.
Organizers of financial pyramids disguise fraudulent schemes in various ways. These can be services for buying/selling jewelry, tourist vouchers, securities, as well as new ways as the sale of cryptocurrencies and bitcoins.
At the same time, all of them pursue only one goal - to lure gullible citizens into a "super profitable" project, which entails serious financial losses.
President Kasym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev at the meeting with the leading staff of the General Prosecutor's Office gave instructions to combat financial pyramids and set a task for state agencies to counteract financial pyramids.
Taking into account that recently more and more people become victims of financial pyramids, Department of economic investigations on Kostanay region of Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan on financial monitoring warns citizens that article 150 of the Code of RK on administrative offenses and article 217 of the Criminal Code of RK provides administrative and criminal liability for advertising and realization of activity of financial pyramids.
